GREAT LAKES Chapter of IEC
Exam and Exam Review for Certified Erosion, Sediment and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI), Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC), and Certified Professional in Storm Water Quality (CPSWQ)
The Great Lakes Chapter International Erosion Control Association, in partnership with various local agencies, received a grant from Ohio EPA’s Environmental Education Fund. The grant will be used to offer CESSWI, CPESC, and CPSWQ exam review classes and exams. The six full day exam review classes, with the half-day exams the next day, which are planned for 2009 are:
CESSWI on April 23 and 24 in Bowling Green, OH – Registration deadline April 3, 2009 CESSWI on September 28 and 29 in Richfield, OH - Registration deadline Sept. 4, 2009
CPESC on June 11 and 12 in Cleveland, OH – Registration deadline May 22, 2009 CPESC on August 13 and 14 in Richfield, OH - Registration deadline July 24, 2009
CPSWQ on November 12 and 13 in Mansfield, OH - Registration deadline October 23, 2009
Please note, deadlines will have to be strictly enforced. Space is very limited, we recommend early registration.
Thanks to the Ohio Environmental Education Grant, the classes and exams will be offered locally and it will be more cost effective for storm water managers to distinguishing themselves as certified, qualified professionals. In turn, this will make it easier for both the regulators and the regulated community to identify and employ qualified inspection and engineering staff to observe and report the adequacy of erosion and sediment controls and storm water management for construction, industrial, and municipal operations.
The classes are described briefly below, for more information about the classes, go to http://www.cpesc.net/
CESSWI certification is intended for those planning to conduct inspections and document compliance and non-compliance issues. This would include municipal inspectors who are checking for compliance with approved storm water pollution prevention plans (SWP3s).
CPESC certification is intended for those planning to develop and review permits as well as design, review, install and inspect E&SCH and drainage plans. Other activities may include assisting regulators, writing handbooks, and educating the public. This would include engineering and outreach staff.
CPSWQ certification is intended for those planning to develop and review NPDES permit applications, design and review SWPPP, and install and inspect storm water management practices. This would include inspectors checking for compliance with SWP3s.
The Great Lakes Chapter International Erosion Control Association is sponsoring these exam review classes and exams in cooperation with Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District, Great Lakes Environmental Finance Center at Cleveland State University, Natural Resources Conservation Service of USDA, Ohio EPA, and Summit Soil and Water Conservation District.
