Municipal Storm Water
What’s new?
Have you met Albert Edward Gator, AL for short? AL stars in his own videos as he travels down the sewers and retention ponds of Avon Lake, Ohio in his boat. He can be seen on local access TV.
AL is just one part of Avon Lake’s P.I.P.E program. AL has been given to hundreds of Avon Lake residents along with coffee cups, water bottles, T shirts, wrist bands, coloring books, and seed packets. AL even has three different coloring books for the kids and a “Christmas Tail” story for the holidays. The coloring books have been a big hit with the kids and parents alike.
The city recently raffled off two rain barrels and a $50 Giant Eagle gift card to residents who completed the Environmental Survey. The surveys were distributed with the water bills. Over 1,200 people have responded! For people not winning a rain barrel, residents had a chance to make their own rain barrel at two Rain Barrel Assembly workshops with more scheduled for this fall. There will also be a workshop on how to build your own compost barrel. Between the workshops and rain barrel assembly kits, over 100 residents have rain barrels this year alone.
